Exhibition Text

To open in coincidence with Miart 2015, Kaleidoscope is delighted to present the first solo exhibition in Italy of American artist Austin Lee (b.1983), co-hosted by Carl Kostyál, London/Stockholm, and Kaleidoscope, Milan.

The Las Vegas-born, New York-based artist, whose playful work hovers between the physical and the digital, the representative and the abstract, will take over the exhibition space with a painting installation entitled “MeArt.”

In addition to a new painting, Reflection, Lee will show a large group of digital drawings translated onto paper using the WaterColorBot, an art robot invented by a 12 year old girl. A stack of drawings will be available for visitors to take.

Later on, from April 14–19, in coincidence with the 2015 Milan Furniture Fair, Lee’s painting installation will be exhibited in dialogue with a constellation of hand-blown Murano glass vases by Memphis, the cult design group initiated by Ettore Sottsass in the early 80s.

The show will remain on view during the opening of Milan Expo and the Venice Biennale, from April 21 – May 15 (Tue–Fri, 3–7 pm).
