Fragile Ecosystem

Performance time 21:30 pm

Exhibition Text

On 24 April as part of Hospitalet’s programme in collaboration with Stockholm Art Week and Market Art Fair, French artist Salomé Chatriot (b. 1995) performed ‘Fragile Ecosystem’ in Hospitalet’s sculpture park. The performance marked the first time Chatriot has performed in Scandinavia.

‘Fragile Ecosystem’ is a series of performances hosted in different contexts with which Chatriot interacts with the audience through a machine (spirometer) which captures her breath in real time. The artist’s breath generates biodata that inform the matrix of the other media she uses: painting, sculpture, installations and videos.

Other performances of ‘Fragile Ecosystem’ include at Offsite Wehrmuehle, Berlin (2025); Grey Area, San Francisco (2025); Bass Museum, Miami, (2024); Calm – La meute Lausanne (2024); ON x LOEWE, Paris (2024) Teatros del Canal, Madrid, (2024); La Becque, La Tour-de-Pleiz (2024) Look at Me, Milano (2024); Palais de Chaillot, Paris, (2023); and Lafayette Anticipations Paris (2023).

Salomé Chatriot, ‘Fragile Ecosystem’ Press Release

Salomé Chatriot is an artist, performer and filmmaker whose practice unfolds through breath as both image and event. She stages respiration as a live score that expands into painting, sculpture, film and installation.

Working with materials she develops herself such as galalith from milk, leather and machinic forms, she forges objects in states of ambivalence. They act as extensions and restraints, fluid instruments of power and submission, unstable bodies caught in contingent hierarchies. Fascinated by the way science treats the body(s) through the objectivity of data, she uses potential futures and new technologies to shape a fluid, digital and precious identity.

She lives and works between Paris, France and Geneva, Switzerland.
